October 2015 Mixer - Mitch Englander, Shawn Steel & Toiletry Drive for LGBT Homeless Youth
We’ve got two great speakers lined up for this month’s Log Cabin mixer.
Mitch Englander serves as the only Republican on the Los Angeles City Council. He’s now set his sights on becoming a county Supervisor serving the 5th District, which includes parts of the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys as well as the Antelope Valley. Mitch was born in the San Fernando Valley and has been active in civic, philanthropic and public safety activities for most of his life, as well as being a small business owner.
We’ll also hear from Shawn Steel, a Republican National Committeeman and former Chairman of the California Republican Party. Also born and raised in California, Shawn started in politics back in his teenage days as the High School State Chairman for Ronald Reagan when he ran for Governor and then was elected as Chairman of the Young Americans for Freedom and served as chair of the California GOP from 2001-2006. He’s been published in numerous professional journals, newspapers and books.
In addition, Log Cabin LA will be holding a toiletry drive to benefit LGBT Homeless Youth in November as we head in to the holidays. UCLA’s Williams Institute reports that 40% of homeless youth served by agencies identify as LGBT. Over the next month or so, please put aside unused hotel or trial size toiletries like shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash, soap and deodorant you may have to bring to our October or November meetings. We're asking for the smaller sizes as they are easier to tote around while out on the streets.
Members get in for just $10, which includes free appetizers and non-members are $15. As always, Governor level members and above are free and will receive a ticket for a glass of one V's boutique California wines.
Metered parking is available on the street or a parking structure located steps away at 901 Hancock Ave is a flat $6.00 after 6pm.
